Two Phases: Coursework and Capstone

Coursework Phase

  • (including preproposal)
  • Focused on developing scholarly writing skills.
  • This is the time when students should strengthen their knowledge of composition, scholarly voice, and APA style in anticipation of the demanding capstone writing project that is ahead of them.

Capstone Phase

  • Focused on providing the tools to write a dissertation or professional doctoral capstone.
  • Basic scholarly writing skills should already be in place; the focus is now on the writing requirements of and resources for a Walden dissertation or professional doctorate capstone.
