Math and Statistics

Have you ever heard yourself say, “I’m just not a math person”? It’s a common believe that some of us were just not meant to excel in the subjects of math and science. However, at OASIS, we believe that everyone has the capacity to succeed if given the right resources for their style of learning.

Math Anxiety

Before diving into a specific skill you’d like to improve, consider first tackling an issue that many students struggle with, even if they haven’t put a name to it yet: math anxiety.

Do You Have Math Anxiety?

What to do if you have math anxiety:

  • Write about your anxiety to alleviate stress
  • Strengthen your foundation by practicing the basics
  • Show all of your work to support your working memory
  • Learn to handle your anxiety with meditation or breathing exercises
  • Think positive! Believing you’re “just not a math person” actually increases anxiety when it comes time to perform.

Your Tools

Also essential to your work in Walden’s math and science courses is your ability to use the tools of these fields like My Labs and Excel. Check out the resources below to help familiarize yourself with the basics.
