The Connect and Chat service is a live, virtual one-on-one service for Walden students facilitated by OASIS peer mentors.
This conversation-based service allows Walden students to connect with peer mentors who both get and understand the Walden student experience. Say you would like to talk to another Walden student, so you don’t feel so alone, or you would like to increase your personal and professional growth as a learner. Peer mentors can help with that. They can also assist you in building your student success knowledge, working through an obstacle, setting a goal, or referring you to the appropriate team or individual for the support you need. Through peer-to-peer support, peer mentors provide active listening, high-quality connection, experiential advice, and solution-based coaching. The common student success topics peer mentors address are time management, adjusting to online learning, growth mindset, imposter phenomenon, anxiety, connectedness, writer’s block, motivation, accountability, prioritization, self-care and more. Peer mentors do not provide course work assignment assistance, capstone project support, or tutoring; however, peer mentors can discuss strategies to complete these tasks and share resources.
OASIS peer mentors are high-performing students coming from a variety of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. They also come from a diverse array of places across the globe and from a variety of educational and professional backgrounds. Click on an available session time to discover more about each peer mentor and see what it may be like to connect with them. As you read through their bios, select a peer mentor based on who speaks most to you. Perhaps you will find someone who makes you smile, shares your same values, or may challenge you in a good way. Meeting with several different mentors and experiencing who would be a good fit can be helpful as well.
Open to all students, each session is 25-minutes in length, and in Eastern Time – US & Canada. You can schedule a session up to two weeks in advance. To view future sessions, click on the arrow bottom (<>) on the top right on the yellow car of the calendar or the month view. You may register ahead of time or the day of. You are required to complete a short form with your name, Walden information in and optionally share the topics you would like to discuss. Once registered, you will receive an email from “Academic Events & Calendars” via Lib Cal. In the email, there will be a direct event link that leads you to the virtual “Peer Mentor Room” to connect with the peer mentor via webcam and audio.
