Speaker One: Amy Bakke
Hello and welcome to Walden's Winter term. I'm Amy Bakke, from the Office of Academic Support and Instructional Services. More commonly known as Oasis.
Oasis is here to help you navigate your journey at Walden by providing library research, writing, and success strategy resources.
In this video we have a snapshot of Oasis resources and services. We invite you to work with us this term.
Academic writing expectations may seem intimidating, but in Oasis we have reading support staff who can help you identify what you know and what you need to know about academic writing.
For example, through our paper review service, our writing experts provide personalized feedback on topics relevant to your writing such as organization, scholarly voice, APA, and grammar. There's no need to schedule a time to meet. These are written reviews, meaning you can use the tips and feedback on your own time.
Speaker Two: Ellen Zamarripa
Hi, my name is Ellen Zamarripa and I help lead live instruction services within Oasis. Join us this winter for an Oasis Live session where you will learn about APA-style scholarly writing and success strategy topics.
This winter, we're debuting a new session called advanced APA Style, where you'll learn about DOI number format, appropriate level of citation and how to cite and reference uncommon sources.
If you'd rather start with the basics, join us for our APA Style Basic session. We're excited to connect with you live.
Speaker Three: Marshalle Lockhart
One resource that I highly recommend is the Building Connections live session. My name is Marshalle Lockhart and I am a student as well as a peer mentor here at Walden University.
The building connection session is facilitated by a peer mentor. Students are in safe space, where they are able to share some of the challenges that they may have had building connections. And they are provided with strategies that can help them to overcome those barriers, leading to them form lasting connections here at Walden University.
Speaker Four: Kim Burton
Hi, my name is Kim Burton and I'm one of the reference and instruction librarians here at Oasis.
Have you heard about our 20-minute rule? If you're in the library and you can't find what you're looking for after 20 minutes, stop what you're doing.
Go to Contact the Library on our website and e-mail us. Whether you're looking for an exact article or need help finding research for your discussion posts or capstone projects, we'll get back to you with the information you need and step by step instructions on how we found it.
We don't want you to get frustrated with the library, so please reach out. We're here to help and we cannot wait to meet you.
Speaker Five: Bethany Duarte
Hi, my name is Bethany Duarte and I'm a Form and Style Editor within Oasis.
Our role is to help facilitate successful completion of your doctoral capstone. And we do that in a lot of different ways.
But the one, I want to highlight today is Editor Office Hours, which is an opportunity that you have to meet with an editor via Zoom and talk about different issues you might be facing with your capstone. Things we talked about a lot are APA, capstone formatting, general questions regarding scholarly writing, and other things that come up as you write.
We would love to meet with you, so we've sent these appointments up in such a way that you can schedule one or even multiple at different points throughout the week. So that you find what works for you and your schedule.
We would love to meet with you and we hope you sign up for a session soon.
These are just a few of the things that we have available to you this winter term. If you're looking for help that we didn't mention, or if you're just curious what else is on offer to you, be sure to check out the Oasis website and, as always, if you have a question or you have an issue Ask Oasis. Because we're here to help.
We hope you have a great, productive and successful winter term.
