Module Preview: Basic Citation Frequency

Last updated 4/18/2016

Visual: Slide with an open book image. Text box with words, “Module Preview: Basic Citation Frequency,” slides in from left and stops in top center of slide.

Audio: The Basic Citation Frequency module teaches students how often they need to include APA citations in their writing, focusing on citation placement in sentences and paragraphs.

Visual: When narrator says, “citation placement,” a text box appears below the book image that reads, “citation placement in sentences and paragraphs.” After the narrator says, “paragraphs,” the slide changes to one with open book image in upper right corner. Text box at top of slide reads, “This module might be a good fit if you…”

Audio: This module might be a good fit if you are new to referencing in APA, are not sure how often to include citations in your writing, or need an introduction to citation frequency.

Visual: As the narrator reads through, each item appears in its own bullet below slide heading. Bullets read:

  • Are new to referencing in APA,
  • Are not sure how often to include citations in your writing, or
  • Need an introduction to citation frequency.

Slide changes to Adobe Connect image. Below Adobe Connect heading is a box with the heading, “Basic Citation Frequency.” Below this text is a list beginning with Premodule Quiz and ending with Certificate of Completion. Next to each list item is a button. The button next to Premodule Quiz is green and reads, “Open.” The other buttons read, “Locked.”

Audio: This interactive, self-paced module includes a premodule quiz, four tutorials, a postmodule quiz, and a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator lists each item, a black rectangle outline appears around each, starting with Premodule Quiz, then the four tutorials, then the Certificate of Completion at the bottom of the list.

Audio: Once you complete the premodule quiz, the four tutorials will become unlocked.

Visual: A black outline surrounds the Open and Locked buttons next to each module portion as the narrator says, “the four tutorials…”

Audio: These tutorials will provide you with an overview of why writers cite as well as explain how best to create citations.

Visual: As the narrator says, “why writers cite,” an image appears in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Image reads: Citation frequency. As the narrator says, “create citations,” an image appears slightly overlapping and more center than first that reads, “From Reference Entry to Citation,” with a reference entry and citation example. These images are previews of the module.

Audio: You will then practice including citations in sentences and paragraphs with a focus on how often to include citations.

Visual: As the narrator says, “citations,” an image appears that reads, “Recap: Citation Frequency Basics.” As the narrator says, “paragraphs,” a fourth image appears that reads, “Consider the paragraph below’s information and citation frequency.” Below the header is a paragraph example.

As the narrator says “include citations” the images disappear, revealing original Basic Citation Frequency box.

Audio: Once you complete the tutorials, take the postmodule quiz until you pass with an 80% score, at which time you can save a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator says, “the tutorials,” the image boxes disappear, revealing the slide below. As the narrator says, “at which time,” an image appears in the upper right that reads, “Congratulations!” and offers a space to enter one’s name that will appear on the completed certificate. As the narrator says, “of completion,” the image fades away.

Audio: Citation frequency is an important component of clearly crediting sources in your writing. When you’re ready to learn how often to include citations in your writing, register for and complete this module!

Visual: Slide changes back to book background from intro slide. Text box at top reads: Questions? Text box below image reads: E-mail wcwebinars@mail.waldenu.edu.
