About Writing

The Writing Center provides a broad range of writing instruction and editing services for students at Walden University, including writing assistance for undergraduates, graduate students, and doctoral capstone writers. The Writing Center includes the Office of Writing Instruction and the Office of Academic Editing, with writing professionals in each office who specialize in helping students at various stages of their Walden education.

The Writing Center also offers support for faculty to guide their students' writing. The Writing Center is part of Walden University's Office of Academic Support, which provides many other services and resources to support student learning.

• The Walden University Writing Center's professional staff provides effective multimodal writing instruction on (a) grammar and composition, (b) scholarly writing, and (c) APA style on the website.
• We acknowledge students' expectations and knowledge while encouraging continuing learning and growth in writing proficiency.
  • We take into account Walden University students' specific needs for writing instruction.
  • We encourage students' self-efficacy and build their self-perceptions about writing.
• We model APA style such as with use of italics, numbers, quotations, and reference lists.
• We strive to make our website accessible for learners of all abilities.

For all content on the Writing Center's website, we strive to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. On the website, you will find careful organization of content on each web page for keyboard and screen reader accessibility. Additionally, you will find the following features:

• Our instructional videos, hosted by YouTube and embedded throughout the website, are accompanied by transcripts listed below each video and playlist.

Our templates are downloadable Microsoft Word files, and you should be able to access those documents via keyboard and screen reader technologies. Microsoft offers some tips on using screen readers to navigate in Word. It should be possible to access all content in the templates via screen reader (including Word comments and track changes), but it may take some adjustment of settings in your screen reader (such as JAWS) and Word. These pages on Microsoft's support site may be useful:

We are also happy to provide free and open access website instruction, videos, and social media to the general learning public and other educators.
