Audio: Shawn Picht: Hello Walden University students and welcome to the Academic Skills Center's Savvy Student Podcast. My name is Shawn Picht, and I am the manager of faculty outreach and student communication for the Academic Skills Center and I am also your host for our upcoming podcast.

Today's podcast is a continuation of my conversation with Walden University student and Doctoral Peer mentor, Megan Bledsoe, about her experiences with Office of Academic Support course, Graduate Writing II.

And you, after the process of the doctoral writing assessment you went and took the Graduate Writing II: Intermediate Composition course. So that's can you tell us about your experience in the course?

Audio: Megan Bledsoe: You know, it was actually a really great course. It taught me some skills I did not utilize previously, such as like the MEAL plan, which will definitely be covered in residencies. And it was just little things that I did not realize that I was doing that was, not necessarily making me a bad writer, but also wasn't making me a great writer. so it was really great to go through that.

You build each week upon a paragraph or two. And by the end you just have a complete finished product. And it was interesting to see how much process can really go into it.

I would have to say the whole process was very humbling because, like many students, I always got As and maybe really high B's on my papers And so there was a blog that said like "when people are assigned this Graduate Writing II class a lot of them feel ashamed or embarrassed." I was one of them.

So looking at how many tools I was able to get out of the process, there's really no reason why you should be ashamed or upset that you are taking this class because it is so beneficial.

Honestly when I started it I was totally dreading it but it really did come out is that beneficial.

Audio: Shawn: Yeah and that's, you know, to be honest with you, the number one feedback we get from students is "I didn't want to take this course but it really helped me."

Audio: Megan: Oh yeah I wouldn't have signed up for otherwise, to be honest with you, so I am glad I was forced into it.

Audio: Shawn:  There's so many ways to be in the know here at the ASC, so until next time Walden students, stay savvy.
