Welcome to Our New Peer Mentors!

We wanted to take a moment to welcome our two new peer mentors!

Carnesha Ben is a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision student, and joined our Peer Mentor team in May. Her advice to Walden students is to students is to "challenge themselves by stepping out of their comfort zones and to refrain from suffering in silence. Sometimes we may be prone to withdraw and figure things out alone, limiting the chance of establishing meaningful connections with peers, staff, and faculty. It is your journey, so take advantage of all opportunities and resources that come your way. You are not alone on this incredible journey."

Shannon Gentry, a previous peer mentor and undergraduate alumna has decided to continue her journey with Walden University, pursuing a Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Marriage, Family, and Couple Counseling. Welcome back to the Peer Mentor team Shannon! Her advice to Walden students is to "be kind to yourself. There will be so many times you will wonder if you have what it takes, if you’re not smart enough to understand, if you can really do this. You do. You are. You can. Schedule yourself time to disconnect and prioritize your self-care. Break up with perfection and remind yourself that you bring your best every day, and sometimes that best might look different from one day to the next!"
