About Stephanie: I joined Walden in 2015 as a Student Success Advisor and migrated to the Academic Skills Center in 2017 as a Writing Assessment Specialist. I have a passion for working with students and wanted to be more actively involved in helping students utilize resources and achieve their academic goals. The ASC allows me the opportunity to assist doctoral students through the Doctoral Writing Assessment requirement. When I am out of the office, I enjoy exploring the Twin Cities, playing volleyball, and volunteering with local animal rescues and shelters.

What I do in my role as a Writing Assessment Specialist
My role as a Writing Assessment Specialist is 50% student-facing and 50% behind the scenes. Contrary to my title I do not actually assess or review students writing. Rather I handle all student and staff questions regarding the Doctoral Writing Assessment (DWA) requirement and many questions about required Graduate Writing courses. I work with students entering their doctoral program through the completion of their DWA requirement.
My favorite project
One of the things I enjoy most about my job is that every day is truly different. There are many projects happening at any given time. From student outreach ideas to internal process changes. My favorite project to date, and that is continuously being worked on, is the ability to create new resources for students. I am in the unique position to be able to work with students daily and hear their questions and concerns. From those experiences I can develop resources for students (and staff) that help answer questions, ease concerns, and allow students to successfully complete their Doctoral Writing Assessment requirement.
