Mission

In tutoring, mentoring, group instruction, and self-paced support, the Academic Skills Center staff teach students how to put skills into action for success.
Vision

Walden’s Academic Skills Center will empower students to build confidence and self-efficacy in skills essential to their success. We will meet all of our students where they are, respecting their rich diversity and providing flexible, holistic instruction to help them thrive at Walden and beyond.

Meet the ASC's Director, Dr. Melanie Brown

Dr. Brown joined Walden University in 2001 and worked as an Editor in Walden's Writing Center before becoming Director of the Academic Skills Center. As director, Melanie talks with students, faculty, and staff to connect them with the skills support they need along with building and guiding her team of expert, compassionate peer tutors, peer mentors, and instructional staff.
"I enjoyed being part of Walden’s Positive Leadership initiative. With teams across the university, we explored the benefits of positive climate, communication, relationships, and purpose. Positivity has such a great influence on students and faculty in and beyond the classroom."
