Prospectus research path

The ideal path for finding a useable topic for your prospectus and problem statement starts with a general area of interest. Below are steps to ensure you're able to locate relevant literature to create a usable business problem and locate usable statistics or data for your hook and anchor.

  1. Start with a broad topic.
  2. Keep an open mind while reviewing the literature on your topic. Try not to define the data or statistics you need before researching what's actually available.
  3. Review the literature for gaps and base your topic on what is considered a business problem. (Not sure if your topic is actually a business problem? Contact a faculty member or your Chair.)
  4. Look at completed doctoral studies or dissertations for inspiration and ideas.
