How To Save PDFs

PDFs will open within your browser window by default. 

Locate the Adobe Reader toolbar at the top of the article.

To save the article to your computer, click the down arrow (download) icon on the Adobe Reader toolbar.

Alternate Method to Save PDFs

Sometimes, the Adobe Reader toolbar will not display.  If this happens, try this alternate method to save your PDF.

  1. Right click on the appropriate PDF link in the results list.

    In EBSCO databases, the Download PDF link at the top of the page can be used.



     In ProQuest, the Open in PDF Reader link at the top of the page or below the article citation can be used.



     In ScienceDirect, the PDF link at the top of the page can be used.


     
  2. Select Save Link As or Save Target As.

This will prompt you to save the PDF to your computer.  Once you have saved the PDF to your computer, go out of your browser and open the saved PDF.

The Save Button Isn't Working

First, reset the Adobe Reader toolbar.  If you are using Adobe Reader 10 or higher, you may need to click the Adobe Reader icon in the new toolbar to get the full toolbar to display.

Right click on the gray bar above the PDF, and select Reset Toolbars. You can also press Alt+F8.

If this does not work, save the PDF to your computer and open the saved file, rather than viewing the PDF in your browser.

Disabling Protected Mode

Protected Mode is a safety feature built into Adobe Reader X.  If you are unable to save PDFs using the right-click and save method, try disabling Protected Mode.

  1. In Windows, open Adobe Reader X from the Start menu.
  2. Click Edit and select Preferences from the drop-down menu.


     
  3. Make sure that General is selected in the left side menu.
  4.  Uncheck the box next to Enable Protected Mode at startup.  


     
  5. Click OK.
  6. You may need to restart your computer for this change to take effect.
