After exploring this guide you will be able to search for peer-reviewed articles on cultural competence and your chosen demographic in the Walden Library by:

  • locating an appropriate subject database
  • using keywords and searching for peer-reviewed articles on your topic

Search on your topic

The instructions below will help you find an appropriate subject database to conduct your search for peer-reviewed articles on cultural competence, social work, and your chosen demographic.

1. From the Walden Library Home Page click the Articles by Topic button.

2. Click on Human services from the Select a Subject list in the center of the page..

3. Now let's choose the database. Click on SocINDEX.

Log in with your myWalden email and password. 

4. Type your keywords into the search boxes. For example:


First Search Box:

social work

Second Search Box:

cultural competence

  Third Search Box:

Enter your chosen demographic. 

5. Under the search boxes, select the Full Text and Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals check boxes.

6. Click on Search


1. Were you able to find articles on your topic? If not, did you try brainstorming keywords for your chosen demographic?
