Multi-Database search tool

Our multi-database tool is a great tool for performing a search across a large portion of our general collection. You can use Thoreau to explore and discover articles on a variety of topics related to African American studies.

This is a tool that searches across many of the Library databases. It is not able to search every database, but it does search enough of our resources to be a useful tool for quick, simple searches.

Black Studies journals

Not sure where to start? Check out the following journals, which have a broad focus and cover a range of topics related to black studies.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): Vital Signs – African American Health: Overview and infographics of African American health disparities. Includes links to CDC Vital Signs data and related topics such as diabetes and tobacco.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center for Health Statistics: Health of Black or African American non-Hispanic Population: Data on live births, health status, smoking, obesity, hypertension, health insurance coverage, mortality, leading causes of death, and infant deaths.
Medline Plus: African American Health: News, statistics and research, clinical trials, and journal articles.

White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Information on the initiative to strengthen HBCUs.
White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for African Americans: Fact sheets, toolkits, and multimedia for professional development, supporting college access and success, early literacy, English language learners, LGBT students, the sciences, and increasing teacher diversity.

U.S. Census Bureau, Census Information Centers (CIC): African American Data Links: Population snap shots including population estimates, demographic profiles, American Community Surveys, Current Population Survey, and Decennial Census reports.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Office of Policy Development and Research (PD&R): Reports, case studies, and data sets on fair housing and discrimination. Search same-sex, LGBT, or other search terms in the main search box or search individual topic areas using the main menu.
