*Students are subject to the policies and procedures describe in the most current Field Experience Manual, regardless of the academic year in which they were admitted.  The university reserves the right to change any provision, offering, requirement, or fee at any time within the student's enrollment period.

Field Experience Manual Updates

Telemental Health (effective Spring 2022)

Students are permitted to provide telemental health (TMH) counseling services to clients if all of the following requirements are met:

  • The student has completed Walden’s 3-hour Distance-Based Practitioner Training (available Spring 2022). Prior to Spring 2022, students can complete Walden’s Student Telemental Health Services Training.
  • The site supervisor has formal training in providing TMH. Walden can provide such training, if needed. 
  • The site supervisor provides appropriate TMH supervision, including educating the student about agency protocols for responding to a client emergency while providing TMH.
  • The site supervisor establishes a system to join the telehealth session should an emergency arise. 
  • The site supervisor attests that TMH will be provided in accordance with their state and licensing board guidelines and jurisdiction.
  • The site supervisor attests that the technology system used for TMH is HIPAA compliant.

 

Internship Requirements (effective Summer 2021)

There is no maximum number of hours in any domain (e.g. 200 Counseling hours), though there are minimums required. Students are required to have at least 100 hours in each domain that they elect to include in their Individual Internship Plan, except if the only hours in the domain are the following hours awarded to all students:

  • Teaching: Pre-Practicum 1&2
    • You will receive credit for 40 Teaching hours for Pre-Practicum 1&2
  • Supervision: 8135 Practicum Supervision
    • You will receive credit for at least 15 hours of Supervision during COUN 8135
  • Group and Triadic Supervision
    • All students should plan to receive at least 50 hours of supervision during internship.
