During Your Residency/Lab: Advising Appointments

Advising Appointments

Advising appointment requirements for residencies, labs and intensives vary by program and are listed in the Blackboard classroom.

Follow the instructions in your registration confirmation email and event website to schedule your advising appointment(s) for the days/times you will be attending the event.

  • Face-to-face events: Appointment times are listed in the local time zone of the event location. Advising meeting locations for face-to-face events will be posted in the Event App.
  • Virtual events: Appointment times are listed in Central Time (CT).

In most cases, you can reserve your advising appointment time(s) beginning 2 or 3 days prior to the first day of the event.

Advising Tips

  • Step-by-step advising appointment instructions are available here.
  • Plan to get the most out of your advising appointments by bringing your plan of study, your resume/vita, your research and/or library questions, etc.
  • Pay close attention to the time zone for your virtual event.
    • Refer to the World Clock and note the time differences for your personal time zone to make sure you do not miss your appointment(s).
  • Make sure you schedule appointments at least one hour or more before the intended advising appointment time since instructors may be teaching other sessions prior to their advising appointments.
  • Cancel appointments you do not need so others can schedule during that time.
