Commonly Asked Questions: What information cannot be released under FERPA?

What information cannot be released under FERPA?

Information that is not directory information may not be released except under certain prescribed conditions. This information includes:

  • Grades
  • Courses taken
  • Test scores
  • Advising records
  • Educational services received
  • Disciplinary actions
  • Social Security number

Because of the restrictions set forth by FERPA, Walden cannot release your non-directory information to other students or outside representatives (or other students’ information to you) without written consent. This includes employers, family members, friends, scholarship organizations, and the like. If you wish to allow access to your information to your employer, for example, if he or she is paying for your program, you will need to submit a FERPA release form to enable the Bursars Office to let your employer know the total of your bill.
