Commonly Asked Questions: Faculty Expectations

How can I contact my faculty instructor?

Faculty can be reached using the Contact the Instructor section of your classroom (for general inquiries) or via e-mail (for more specific or personal inquiries). As a Walden student, if you e-mail a professor you should use only your Walden e-mail account as faculty cannot confirm an e-mail sent from a non-Walden e-mail account is actually for that student and may not respond to non-Walden messages. Additionally, the spam filters on faculty e-mail accounts are sensitive enough that they may even block your e-mail if sent from a non-Walden account. Remember to also include the name and section of the course you are in with the professor (if applicable) and your student ID.

The best contact method to reach faculty is via e-mail. Additionally, faculty do not have school phone numbers. While you may e-mail your professor to arrange for an individual appointment, he or she may not be able to accommodate the request due to his or her schedule or phone capabilities. Some – but not all – faculty have created Skype accounts to enable them to interact more with students in their courses.

How long should I wait for a response from a faculty instructor?

Faculty – in dissertation or doctoral study courses

Faculty and staff have 14 days to review drafts of dissertation or doctoral study chapters. Please remember that each reviewer has 14 days to review materials you have submitted as part of the dissertation or doctoral study.

Faculty – in all other courses

Faculty members have 48 business hours to respond to an e-mail from students in class.
