  4. Review the What Can I Do with This Major? Nursing Career Guide (external) to explore areas of nursing, potential employers, and career advancement strategies. 

  5. Visit the WaldenU.edu website to learn about career options recommended for the BSN program and explore nursing programs at the master’s and doctoral levels to plan for your next career chapter.

Practicum Support

Locate a Field Site 

These tools can help you locate potential field sites. 

  1. Register on the Walden Job and Internship Search Locator job board.  

  1. Access the GoinGlobal job search system using your Walden credentials. 

  1. Use interest-specific job boards (click on the Health Sciences button) to expand your field site search. 

  1. Visit the Career Planning Resources for Field Experience page. 

  1. Review the Plan for Practicum - Utilize Professional Preparation Resources section on the Nursing Practicum website

Communicate with Field Sites

Resume and Interview Support

Build a Resume and Cover Letter

Are you looking to create an impactful resume to apply for field sites or job opportunities?  Take these steps to communicate your academic and professional skills: 

  1. Review the BSN Practicum resume and cover letter samples for ideas on how to improve your documents (IMPORTANT: the templates are there to guide you; remember to use your own language when creating your documents):

  1. Log into SkillsFirst using your Walden email address and password to view additional resume and cover letter samples. Refer to the SkillsFirst Resume Guide - Field Experience and SkillsFirst Letter Guide-Field Experience for step-by-step instructions on how to build your documents using this system. 

  1. Explore the Resumes & More tab for additional resume and cover letter writing tips.  Remember to always bring your best self forward on your resume and cover letter by including a professional-looking email address and a phone number with a professional-sounding voice mail greeting.  

Design an e-Portfolio 

Stand out to potential field sites and employers by creating an e-portfolio to showcase your academic and professional achievements. 

  1. Log into SkillsFirst using your Walden credentials to build an e-portfolio.  Inside SkillsFirst, you will find the Nursing Practicum Portfolio template.  You can use this template to create your document. 

  1. Refer to the SkillsFirst Portfolio Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to create, edit, and share your portfolio. 

Practice Your Interviewing Skills

Get ready to show potential field sites and employers that you are the best candidate for the opportunity you are seeking. 

  1. Log into SkillsFirst and use its Interviews module to practice your interviewing skills. Refer to the step-by-step SkillsFirst Interview Questions Guide to access 12,000+ interview questions. 
    TIP: Search for Nursing to access general and nursing practicum-specific interview questions. 

  1. Learn more about effective interview strategies on the Interviews tab

  1. Read a blog story on preparing for a variety of interview formats including one-on-one, group, and panel interviews. 

  1. Watch the Interview Strategies webinar below to learn how to tackle tough interview questions. 

Networking Support

Engage and Connect 

Strengthen your online and offline networks and engage in professional activities to enhance your professional brand.

  1. Gain tips to boost your online presence and learn how to connect with nursing and health sciences professionals by watching the  Launching with LinkedIn webinar.

  1. Join a Professional Association related to the nursing field.  Here are several associations to consider:

Explore Nursing Certifications 

Update your skills, stay current on healthcare trends, and build your resume by pursuing nursing certifications. 

Nursing certifications can be related to a specialty area of nursing as well as in advanced practice settings. Below is a complete list of nursing certifications including what the certification is and the credential. You will also see a link to the certification boards website which provides more details on the requirements as well as a structured curriculum. Career Planning and Development: Office Hours

Do you have a question about your career that you would like to ask the Career Planning team? Join us for Office Hours! During this live event, you will video chat with your fellow students, alumni, and a representative of the Career Planning and Development staff. In this session, we will discuss career planning resources that may include the following topics:

  • Career Exploration:  Learn more about how to explore career options, potential employers, and job opportunities. Gain strategies and resources to prepare you for your next career move.
  • Resumes and CVs:  Get advice for developing eye-catching resumes and CVs! Learn strategies for highlighting your accomplishments and skills. 
  • Networking:  Learn more about becoming actively involved in professional associations, volunteering, or connecting with groups in your community.
  • Interviewing:  Join the conversation where we will discuss preparing for the interview, showcasing your achievements, answering challenging interview questions, and learning how to leave a lasting impression.
