Code of Conduct

Walden University has four overarching policies within its Student Code of Conduct:

  • Academic Integrity
  • Professional Conduct
  • Nonharassment
  • Nondiscrimination

Academic Integrity

A violation of academic integrity is any action or attempted action that may result in creating an unfair academic advantage for the student or an unfair academic advantage or disadvantage for any other member or members of the academic community.

Academic integrity violations include the following:

  • Plagiarism including reuse of work
  • Cheating
  • Providing False Information
  • Misrepresentation of Credentials
  • Alteration of University Documents
  • Copyright Violation
  • Theft or Damage of Property

Professional Conduct and Nonharassment

Walden University expects that its students will conduct themselves in a professional and respectful manner at all times, both when interacting within the university community and when representing the university at events outside the institution. In that regard, students will not at any time engage in unduly disruptive, threatening, unethical, disrespectful, or abusive conduct toward other members of the university community, including fellow students, instructors, and staff.

Walden University is committed to maintaining an environment that is free of unwelcome and disrespectful conduct and communication and in which university members feel safe and comfortable. As such, it is a violation of this policy for any Walden employee, instructor, or student to engage in harassing conduct or communication directed toward another employee, instructor, student, or any other person affiliated with the university.

The complete Professional Conduct and Nonharassment policies can be found in the Student Handbook, Section 3

Residencies

Residencies, Academic Year in Residence (AYR) sessions, and writing intensives often also include online classroom activity and email communication. Therefore, all university policies regarding behavior in the classroom and email exchanges extend to parallel activities in these events.  These events also provide students unique opportunities for face-to-face interaction with their peers, faculty and university support staff; therefore, professional conduct policies are particularly relevant during these face-to-face interactions.

Student Information Release Form (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a Federal law designed to protect the privacy of a student's education records, including academic, financial and financial aid records. The law applies to all schools that receive funds under a program of the U.S. Department of Education.

This act protects your personal information from being distributed to third parties without your consent, unless permitted by law. This form must be completed and returned to the appropriate University office either by fax or mail, before any information can be released to a third party (i.e., spouse, employer, etc.). This form remains on file with the University.
