New Students: Request Military Leave of Absence

Steps to Request a Military Leave of Absence

If you experience a long-term interruption to your program and/or inability to participate in your course due to your military commitments, you may be allowed to take a Military Leave of Absence (MLOA).

Please follow the checklist below to request a MLOA.

  1. Contact your Student Success Advisor regarding your need for MLOA.
  2. Follow the guidance from your advisor and complete a Leave of Absence form.
  3. To support your MLOA request, email or fax a copy of your military orders or a letter from your commanding officer to military@mail.waldenu.edu or 410-209-8031.

If you don’t have military orders, a letter from your commanding officer can be used in lieu of the orders.

Once you have provided the supporting military documentation to the Office of Military Services, your request will be reviewed. If approved, you will be placed on a MLOA for duration of the time requested. You will receive an email from the Registrar’s Office confirming your MLOA which will include instructions on how to return to your studies after your leave has ended.

If you find that your deployment or military obligations has been extended, you may be eligible to extend your MLOA. Please provide additional military documentation supporting your need for an MLOA extension to the Office of Military Services.
