Dina Bergren, MA earned her MA in Human Resource Development from the University of St. Thomas while also working as a college recruiter, career advisor, and assistant director of education. After earning her master’s degree, Dina started her own business partnering with consultants on a multitude of training and career development projects until she joined Walden University in 2006. As Associate Director of Career Services, Dina advises students on career-related topics, serves as Career Services’ technology specialist, manages the Career Services Center website, and collaborates on interdepartmental committees. 

Nancy Brown, BS  is a Graduate Assistant and Learning Resource Coordinator the Academic Skills Center at Walden University. Earned BS Business Administration (Walden University); Currently a student in the MS Adult Learning program (Walden University).

Emily Dahlen, MEd started with Walden in 2013 as an Associate Director in the Academic Skills Center. Prior to coming to Walden, Emily worked as a Student Success Advisor at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities and at Capella University. She also taught at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she is a doctoral candidate in organizational communication. Her educational background is in organizational communication, human resource development, and political science.

Patrick Dunn, PhD completed a PhD in Public Health with a concentration in Community Health Education at Walden University in 2015.  His area of research is in the development of health literacy skills in patients with cardiovascular disease and diabetes.  Dr. Dunn's ackground includes over 30 years as a clinical exercise physiologist and program director in the field of cardiac rehabilitation and quality management.  He has been tutoring students in general statistics and biostatistics since 2012, and currently is an Instructional Support Specialist in the Academic Skills Center.  Also works on the Patient and Healthcare Innovation Team for the American Heart Association.  Earned a BS in Education from the University of Dayton, an MS from Purdue University, and an MBA from Indiana University.  Certified Exercise Specialist with the American College of Sports Medicine, and Blackbelt in Lean-Six Sigma.  

Zin Htway, PhD completed a PhD from Walden University in December 2014. The course of study was Public Health, Epidemiology. Works in the Academic Skills Center at Walden as Instructional Support Specialist. He holds an MBA Healthcare Management from Western Governor’s University and an Undergraduate degree in Clinical Science, Cytotechnology from California State University Dominguez Hills. Dr. Htway’s background is in Pathology and Cytopathology. He is currently the Supervisor and Operations Manager of an Anatomic Pathology laboratory, and Hazmat Safety Officer at a local hospital and a part-time lecturer at California State University Channel Islands in the Department of Biology/Natural Sciences. 

Sarah Inkpen, MEd holds a B.Math from the University of Waterloo, Canada and a MEd in Adult Education from Brock University, Canada.  Sarah is currently a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Skills Center, specializing in statistics. Has taught all levels of mathematics in the Ontario Community College system and the University College of the Cayman Islands.  Currently teaches in Doha, Qatar. 

Sunny Liu, PhD is the quantitative methodology expert in the Center of Research Quality. Her research interests include quantitative and mixed-method research design, advanced statistics, and longitudinal data analysis using large national representative samples. She has years of experiences in teaching research method courses and serving in dissertation committees.

Matthew Jones, PhD is a methodologist in the Office of Research and Doctoral Services. His interests include philosophy of science, quasi-experimental designs in applied settings, multivariate statistics, and pedagogical approaches to teaching quantitative analysis. Dr. Jones has taught research methods for over a decade and is the co-author of a research methods text fro public and non-profit administrators. When not teaching research methods he has served as a program evaluator and statistical consultant.

photo of LydiaLydia Lunning, MA joined the Walden Writing Center in 2012, with a master’s degree in English literature from the University of Minnesota, a bachelor’s from Oberlin College, and years of experience teaching writing at the college level at both the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. In addition, she has worked as a freelance editor and as part of the editorial staff at Cricket Magazine Group.

Steven Mairs, MPA completed the Master of Public Administration program at Walden University in 2009. While earning his master’s degree, Steve served USAID in over 18 international locations managing multi-million dollar budgets, inventorying property, assessing performance, and securing data. After completing his master’s degree, he started a nonprofit organization, Excellence in Public Service, where he designed and implemented an extensive database of quantity and quality information about global nonprofit organizations.

Kim Palermo-Kielb, MS is the Coordinator, Instructional Support in the Academic Skills Center at Walden. Kim earned her B.S. in Psychology (Marymount College of Fordham University, NY), a M.S. in School-Community Psychology (College of New Rochelle, NY), and a M.S. in Psychology Research and Program Evaluation from Walden.  Kim provides administrative support, data reporting, onboarding/training, and assists with the operations of the ASC Tutoring Program.  Began as graduate assistant (GA) research peer mentor (12/2012), promoted to Sr. GA (1/2014), promoted to Academic Program Assistant (1/2015), promoted to full-time Coordinator, Instructional Support (8/2015).  Kim volunteers as a Walden Alumni Ambassador and is enrolled in the Ph.D. in Research Psychology Program at Walden. 

Shawn Picht, MA graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN with an MA in English, and taught a range of English, Humanities, and College Prep courses at Brown College for two years before joining Walden University as a Writing Instructor in November 2013. During his time at UST, he worked at the Center for Writing, served as a Graduate Representative, attended numerous conferences (including the annual Popular Culture Conference), and participated in the Teaching Mentor program. He is currently the Manager of Faculty Support for the Academic Skills Center at Walden.

Denise Pranke, MEd earned her Master of Education in Adult Education from the University of Minnesota. After graduating, she coordinated a college prep program for adults and taught college prep mathematics courses. In her current role as a Walden Career Services Advisor, she guides students on career management strategies and tracks the Career Services Center metrics.

Sharon Roberts, MBA is a PhD Management, Leadership and Organizational Change student at Walden University.  She earned her MBA from University Canada West.  She is a Project Manager at University Health Network (Toronto General Hospital) in Toronto, Canada.  Sharon’s vast experience spans over 25+ years as a project manager, IM/IT consultant, organizational consultant and healthcare change agent.   She is a trainer, presenter, and respected author. 
 

Heather Walzel, MSN-ED, RN  is a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Skills Center at Walden, focused on nursing and biostatistics. Heather earned her MSN in Health Care Education and a Bachelors in Science of Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She is a full-time nurse at Kaiser Permanente and a PRN nurse and another hospital in the ICU. She currently teaches health care and nursing for another University.

 
Toby Yak, MPH, Epidemiologist is a Graduate Assistant in the Academic Skills Center, focused on assisting students in General Statistics/SPSS Support, and Biostatistics. He is currently a student in the Ph.D. Public Health (Epidemiology) program at Walden. Yak earned his B.S. in Microbiology, minor in Chemistry (North Dakota State University), and MPH (Walden University). Yak's background is in injury prevention, suicide prevention, and substance abuse prevention. Presently, he is the Lead Epidemiologist at the Iowa Department of Public Health, Division of Behavioral Health in Des Moines, Iowa.
