SPSS Tutoring: Tips for Hiring External Statistical Consultants

Overview

Although the Academic Skills Center Tutoring Services offers tutoring support for doctoral students working on their dissertations with statistics, some students may find that they need additional support from an outside consultant. Walden University does not guarantee the quality or availability of outside statisticians for hire; therefore we do not recommend them.

To learn more about a statistical consultant’s quality or availability, consider contacting that individual via phone or e-mail.

Introduce yourself as a Walden University student and mention that you are interested in hiring an external statistical consultant. Refer to Walden’s Guidelines for Working with External Consultants for specific guidelines for working with external statisticians.

Tips for Finding the Right Consultant

  • Contact a local college or university math department or check the local bulletin boards if one is located in your local area.
  • Search the web for "dissertation statistical consultants". You will likely find links to many freelance consultants and consulting companies. Some provide details about cost and the type of work they do.
  •  Ask other Walden students for recommendations.
  •  Be sure to review the information in the Student Handbook on the use of external consultants, including editors, for capstone projects (select "Student Handbook" from drop down in upper right hand corner > "Section 7. Learning Modalities and Resources" > "Final Projects" > "Capstone Research: Dissertation or Doctoral Study" > "Guidance for Walden Students on the Use of External Consultants for Capstone Projects").
