Graduate Writing: Word Usage and Grammar

Word Usage and Grammar

Words allow us to convey meaning and connect with our audience. In order to be understood, writers need to use the right words in the proper order, following the rules of English grammar. In Graduate Writing I, you might have received feedback that your word usage and grammar could be improved. To review these areas, we recommend viewing a grammar webinar and exploring the Grammarly computer program.

Writing Center Webinar: Grammar for Academic Writers

Grammar errors can affect how well the reader understands your ideas. There are a few common grammar errors in academic writing related to verb tense, essential and nonessential clauses, commas after introductory clauses, possessive forms, subject-verb agreement with complex subjects. View this webinar to learn about these errors and how to avoid them in your own writing.
