Google Analytics: Intro

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a web-based statistical package that collects statistics about a website.

To track a website in Google Analytics, the webmaster must put a piece of JavaScript tracking code in the header or footer of the website.  This code is specific to a single Google Analytics account.  After a few days, users can log into their Google Analytics profile and run reports on tracked content.

How Do I Access Google Analytics?

  1. Go to the Google Analytics home page and click the Sign in link at the top right.
  2. Sign in with the appropriate Google Analytics account.  A list of known Google Analytics accounts are in the Information for Webmasters documentation.
  3. Click the name of your site, if it isn't expanded.
  4. Click the appropriate URL/site title to access the GA reports for that site.
