The Walden University New Scholars Workshop (NSW) was created as a "next step" interactive seminar to support recent doctoral graduates' continued development as scholars and is a free experience provided by the Center for Research Quality.
Topics include publishing capstone research, selecting the right journals and outlets for dissemination, preparing posters and professional conference presentations, and developing a plan to continue one's research beyond the doctoral degree. Lots of time for sharing and discussion is also provided.
To accommodate the needs of participants, the NSW is delivered in two formats.
Face-to-face NSWs are held in conjunction with graduation in the Winter and Summer terms. To avoid conflicts with other activities, the workshop runs from 1 to 5 pm on the Thursday afternoon, prior to Saturday graduation. Snacks are provided.
Virtual NSWs are just like the face-to-face workshop, except that they are conducted online with the use of webcams. The cohorts are smaller, and we try to schedule them on a Saturday, in the times between the face-to-face sessions. The only difference - participants have to provide their own snacks!

At this point, we are not planning to offer virtual New Scholars Workshops until after summer graduation. You can indicate your interest in future workshops by completing the regular application, and we’ll send you information when those future dates are set.
