Policy
UPMC prohibits students from contacting providers or practitioners at UPMC or UPMC facilities to secure a preceptor for nurse practitioner practicum courses. Nurse practitioner students are not permitted to contact UPMC facilities or personnel to secure a preceptorship for nurse practitioner courses. Nurse practitioner practicum experiences must be coordinated through Walden University.
Process
A Field Placement Coordinator in the Office of Field Experience will coordinate placement for nurse practitioner courses at UPMC. Students who wish to complete a practicum at UPMC and meet eligibility requirements must follow these steps:
- Schedule a Coaching Call with the Field Placement Coordinator for Pennsylvania at least three months before the practicum application deadline.
- Go to https://bit.ly/CoachingCallFPC
- On the Coaching Call Schedule page, select “Pennsylvania – UPMC facilities”
- On the Appointment Details page, select “Placement at UPMC Facilities” for the type of call
- The Field Placement Coordinator will contact potential preceptors at UPMC to secure a preceptorship.
Eligibility
- Students applying for nurse practitioner courses
- Employees of UPMC
- NP specializations in MSN, PMC, and DNP programs.
- Coaching Call scheduled no later than three months before the practicum application deadline.
Important Note
Placement at a UPMC facility is not guaranteed. If placement cannot be secured at a UPMC facility, the Field Placement Coordinator will assist students in identifying alternative opportunities.
