Training for Students

Home-Based and Community-Based Safety Training


Learning Outcomes

Students will learn to:

  • Generate a plan for home-based/community-based counseling
  • Execute safety protocols for entering and exiting clients’ homes
  • Implement safety protocols for exiting and re-entering vehicles
  • Evaluate clients’ home environments and surrounding areas for safety and potential risks
  • Manage unforeseen client behaviors when providing home-based/community-based counseling
Students must also complete the field site’s home-based/community-based counseling and safety plan training before being approved to participate in home-based/community-based services.

Training for Site Supervisors

Site Supervisor Orientation

In accordance with CACREP standards, Walden requires that each site supervisor complete a Site Supervisor Orientation to inform them of program policies and procedures.

Foundations in Counseling Supervision

Foundations in Counseling Supervision is a free course in counseling supervision worth 1.5 Continuing Education credits. The Learning Objectives for the course are as follows:

  1. Understand the purpose of supervision for supervisees
  2. Gain knowledge of qualities for effective supervision
  3. Gain knowledge of supervision models
  4. Become familiar with the ethical, legal and clinical issues of supervision
  5. Learn how to address distinct issues related to supervision

Continuing Education

WOW Workshops

The Words of Wisdom (WOW) workshops are offered by the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program at Walden University approximately every month throughout the year.  WOW workshops are offered on a variety of counseling and counseling related topics to enhance both the personal and professional development for all participants.

All presentations meet requirements for NBCC continuing education hours (typically 1.5 hours) and are offered at no cost (Yes, free!) to faculty, site supervisors, staff, students, and alumni. These workshops are delivered live via online platform where attendees enjoy interactions with the presenters

Approved Continuing Education Provider
