Walden’s Global Days of Service events takes place annually during the month of October. Here are some ways the Academic Skills Center’s faculty and staff participated:
- Cared for animals and cleaned cages at Minneapolis Animal Care & Control
- Made 147 send-off bags for deploying soldiers, who often have something to welcome them home but don’t have anything to send them off
- Cleaned and organized at Harriet Tubman Center, which helps women, men, children and families struggling with relationship violence, substance abuse, and mental health
Our staff and faculty support organizations and causes important to our communities year-round. Below are some ways the ASC’s faculty and staff support Walden’s mission of social change year-round:
- Mentoring teens and young-adult mothers who are in college
- Sheree Keitt, Doctoral Peer Mentor, Maryland
- Packing nutritious meals for hungry children around the world at Feed My Starving Children
- Helping soldiers’ families with mental-health coping skills and resilience building
- Serving breakfast to residents in a homeless shelter and packing bags for Meals on Wheels
- Supporting Cookie Cart (North Minneapolis), Sharing Care (enhancing the lives of children who have medical complexities), and Animal Humane Society
- Mentoring and tutoring Latino youth in college preparation
- Helping teens write their college admissions essays
