Captions in Ooyala: convert the caption file

Now that you have a closed caption file, you need to convert it to a file type that Ooyala understands. Hang in there, we are so close!

There are a number of free file converters out there.  I recommend Caption Converter from 3PlayMedia (who happens to be a Walden University vendor).

Go to the Caption Converter website, linked below this video, and scroll down the page to the text box.

Set the Output Format to DFXP.

Find that file you downloaded form YouTube and open it in Notepad.  The file is probably named captions.sbv. You’ll need to change the Notepad file browser to *All Files in order to see the caption file.

Once the file is open in Notepad, copy it, then paste it into the text box on Caption Converter.

Click the yellow “CONVERT MY FILE” button and wait while it converts your file.  Your file will automatically download when it is ready.  The file name will be something like captions_output_timestamp.XML.

Now you have a closed caption file in the proper file format.  There’s just one more step before you upload it to Ooyala.
