Researching international higher education

You are tasked with researching and discussing various aspects of internationalization in higher education.  The resources provided in your classroom and on your Course Readings page have a lot of good information, but if you want to look beyond those resources the Walden Library has a lot of journals that cover international higher education.

Below is a sample search in Education Source, one of the databases available in the Walden Library.  Keep in mind that the best way to search in the library databases is to break down your query into key words and phrases.

And remember, if you have any questions you can always Ask A Librarian.

Sample article search

The Education Research page is the place to find recommended databases for your searches.  Below is a sample search in Education Source, the best place to start searching for articles on your education related topic.  Follow these steps to run your search:

1. Click the Select a Subject drop-down from the Walden Library Home Page.

2. Choose Education from the options.

3. Now choose Education Source from the list of education databases.

You may have to login with your myWalden email and password.

4. Now you are on a search screen with three Search boxes.  Break your topic down into just keywords and type one concept or keyword(s) per box, separating synonyms with the word OR within each line.

We'll use the Week 4 investigation into strategies for implementing cross-border delivery and collaboration for our example

In the top search box type: cross-border OR international

In the middle search box type: higher education OR college OR university

From the drop-down menu to the right select AB Abstract to add focus

In the middle search box type: strateg*

Note: the asterisk (*) allows you to capture variant endings and irregular plurals - strategy/strategies

Here's what the search page will look like:

6. Click the Search button.

This is just a sample search.  Try another search using the word implement* to capture articles that discuss implementing or implementation.  You can explore the results lists for additional vocabulary to broaden your search.   Be sure to keep an eye out for synonyms; by adding in synonyms separated by the word OR you can capture the different ways a concept might be discussed in the literature.
