Walden University is testing a new virtual assistant called Myna and we'd like you to help! We are considering Myna and want to know how you feel about interacting with a virtual assistant. Please note that Myna is not final and is still undergoing development and testing before its final release.

For this test, Myna is programmed to provide personalized Walden Library help through either traditional or voice chat. Like Siri and Alexa, you can talk to Myna to get answers to your questions.

We want to find out how you feel about interacting with Myna and how it compares to our more traditional Quick Answers search. We'd appreciate it if you can take 15-20 minutes to try Myna and then answer some questions for us.

This test is to get your feedback on how you feel about interacting with Myna and with Quick Answers, it is not about the quality of the search results.

A microphone and speakers are required for this test.

About the Test

The test is composed of three parts.

  1. First, you will search Quick Answers using specific phrases we will provide.
  2. Then you will repeat the same searches in Myna, using both her text chat and voice chat features.
  3. Finally, you will fill out a short survey.

The entire test should take about 15 to 20 minutes, depending on how much time you spend exploring Myna's features.

The survey is anonymous and we will not collect any information about you.

Part One: Quick Answers

Directions

You will perform four separate searches.

  1. Copy and paste the first search phrase into the Quick Answers search box in the Quick Answers Activity section to the right.
  2. Click the Search button.
  3. Reflect on the prompts below.
    • How do you feel about the search box?
    • Is there anything about the search functionality you do or do not like?
    • Remember, this is not about the quality of the search results, but do consider how the search results are displayed.
  4. Do the same for the second line, continuing through all four searches.

Part Two: Myna

You will now repeat the same searches in Myna. As Myna has a voice feature as well as text, you will type two of the search phrases and use the voice feature for the other two search phrases.

Setup:

Before you begin, please verify your microphone and speakers are set up. A microphone and speakers are required for this test. If you do not have a working microphone and speakers, unfortunately you cannot participate in this test.

Login, Privacy Policy and Allowing Microphone Access

  1. When you launch Myna, you will see a login screen. Enter your Walden email and password, just as you would anywhere else you need to log in for Walden.
  2. Once you have logged in, you will see some general information about Myna and a video. Please read through the page and watch the video.
  3. Finally, you need to agree to Walden's Privacy Policy. Once you check the acknowledge box, you will proceed to Myna.
  4. Before Myna loads, you will be asked to give Myna access to your microphone. Click the Allow button to give access. You must have pop-ups enabled to see the microphone permissions pop-up.
