Is there an order in which I should be taking my courses? Can I make any changes to that order?

Your program is built so that you take courses in a prescribed order.  You’ll be automatically registered in that order.

Students who want to take courses out of sequence must petition the Program Director for permission.

How many classes do I take each semester?

You will be taking two 8-week courses each semester, one after the other.

If you wish to drop to one course per semester, please contact your Student Success Advisor for assistance with adjusting your registration. Before adjusting your registration, however, Student Success Advising recommends you contact the Financial Aid office (finaid@mail.waldenu.edu) regarding the impact the schedule adjustment may have to your award that semester.

How do I drop a class or take a break?   

If you want to just take one eight-week term off, please email your request to studentsuccess@mail.waldenu.edu

If you wish to take longer than eight weeks off please fill out the Leave of Absence form found on the Student Services tab of your portal.

Can I take more than one course at a time?

Students can petition to increase their course load by filling out the General Petition form found on the Student Services tab of the portal. Approval is contingent on many factors including student GPA, course offering schedule, and time in program. Please schedule an appointment with your Student Success Advisor to discuss your personal eligibility in more detail.

Who can I talk to about licensing questions related to my program?

You can email our Certification Office at educlicensure@mail.waldenu.edu.

Can I change my specialization or add a second one?

You can change your specialization at any time during your program by emailing studentsuccess@mail.waldenu.edu. Not all courses may count towards your new specialization, so if you are more than a class or two into your program, please schedule an appointment with your Student Success Advisor to discuss the change.

Students can only have one specialization for their degree. We do offer a variety of graduate certificate programs that you can enroll in if you have a strong interest in another area.

You will need to purchase your own course materials each term and can do so using the View Course Materials link located beneath each of your courses on the homepage your myWalden portal after you are registered.

You will take one content course for your first semester and a half. After that, you will take two courses at a time: one content course and one field experience course.

How do I drop a course or take a break?               

If you wish to take a break (Leave of Absence), you must do so in 16-week increments. You can apply for your Leave using the Leave of Absence form located on the Student Services tab of your myWalden portal.

I have questions about a Major Assessment, who can I contact? Can Student Success Advising help me with my ePortfolio/Major Assessments?

If you have questions about your Major Assessment or ePortfolio, please contact your specialization coordinator or your course instructor.

A change from the Educational Leadership and Administration program to any of the other MSEd specializations would require a new application to be submitted through the Enrollment office.  Please contact the Enrollment office at 866-492-5336 if interested in learning more about this process.

Does my program lead to licensure? How do I get licensed or add on an endorsement?

The only MSED specialization state-approved to lead to licensure is Educational Leadership and Administration (Principal Preparation).  No other specialization has state approval to lead to licensure. What is the ePortfolio? What are Major Assessments?

Major Assessments are the components that make up your ePortfolio. Your program has an ePortfolio in lieu of a thesis, or a comprehensive exam as the culminating part of your program to demonstrate your mastery of the subject to earn your degree.

Do I have to pass all the Major Assessments?

Yes, all Major Assessments must be passed in order for a student to graduate.

  • If you started your program before May 2015, you need to contact the Major Assessment Coordinators at msedeportfolio@mail.waldenu.edu with your questions.
  • If you started your program on or after May 2015, please contact your course instructor with any Major Assessment questions.

Is there an order in which I should be taking my courses? Can I make any changes to that order?

Please review your Degree Audit or the course catalog for your course sequence. You will be following this sequence to take your courses. Any changes will require a petition approval from the Program Director. Please know that petitions to alter course sequence might not be approved due to the prerequisites involved with the specific courses.

How long are my courses?

Your courses will all be 8 weeks in length.

Is there a limit on transfer of credit?

You are only able to transfer in two courses for your certificate.

Can I change my certificate or add a second one?

If you wish to change your certificate, you will have to apply for a new certificate program using the “Apply for new degree” link located on your myWalden portal’s Academics tab. You are not able to be in two certificate programs at once.

Do I need to initiate registration for my courses?

You will be automatically registered for your courses each semester by our Registrar’s Office provided you do not have any holds on your account that may prevent registration. If you are not registered at least 4 weeks prior to the next term start and you do not have a hold on your account, please contact Student Success Advising for assistance in getting registered.

My Degree Audit says a class is “Unavailable” – what does that mean?

When a Degree Audit says that a course is unavailable, it means that course is currently not available for online registration. It does not necessarily mean that registration for that course is not possible. If a course shows as unavailable in your Degree Audit, please send a written request (studentsuccess@mail.waldenu.edu) to your Student Success Advisor who can verify the availability of the course and process your request if the course is available.

Do I need to complete a major assessment with my certificate?

Major assessment requirements may vary based on the catalog year in which you are enrolled. Please contact your Student Success Advisor for more information about your specific requirements.

When should I complete my graduation application?

You should complete your graduation application on the last day of your last course. Certificates are conferred at the end the semester in which you complete your last course.

Do I need to purchase my own books?
