Journal Alerts & Search Alerts: Introduction

Keeping up with the literature in your field

As a scholar, it’s important to keep up with newly published research. You can do this in a variety of ways.

  • Using journal alerts, you receive alerts via either email or RSS feed when new journal issues are published. Stay up-to-date with what is being published in your field of study in a specific journal
  • With search alerts, you receive alerts via either email or RSS feed when new items matching your search terms are added to a database. Monitor new research that matches searches you've performed in Walden Library databases.
  • If you don't want to use alerts, you can consistently visit journal or professional organization's websites to check for new content.
  • You could also subscribe to the important print journals in your field.

Do whatever works best for you, but make sure to have a plan to stay on top of published research.

This guide goes over how to set up journal and search alerts in the Walden Library databases. It also has information on RSS feeds and readers.
