DPA Residency Learning Outcomes

The following are key learning outcomes you will be expected to achieve as part of your residency experiences at each level:

Residency 1

  1. Organize a team to work on a public or nonprofit sector problem.
  2. Identify the salient aspects of a particular public or nonprofit sector problem.
  3. Synthesize various theoretical frameworks and managerial techniques in order to design solutions to a public or nonprofit sector problem.
  4. Formulate alternative solutions to a public or nonprofit sector problem.
  5. Evaluate alternative solutions to a public or nonprofit sector problem.
  6. Present recommendations regarding the solution of a public or nonprofit sector problem.
  7. Apply what they learn to their own Professional Administrative Study.

Residency 2

  1. Develop leadership skills by providing guidance and support to Residency 1 students.
  2. Identify the salient aspects of a problem, purpose, and research question associated with a successful Professional Administrative Study.
  3. Apply various theoretical and conceptual frameworks and managerial techniques to the applied Professional Administrative Study.
  4. Formulate a research design/strategy for the Professional Administrative Study.
  5. Evaluate alternative solutions for applied research design.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practices in the application of a professional consulting study.
  7. Employ ethical and culturally sensitive research designs in professional consulting reports.
  8. Demonstrate skill in technical writing appropriate for the Professional Administrative Study.
  9. Demonstrate best practices in oral presentation skills.
