Module Preview: Journal Article Reference Entries

Last updated 4/18/2016

Visual: Slide with stack of journals image. Text box with the words, “Module Preview: Journal Article Reference Entries,” slides in from left and stops in top center of slide.

Audio: The Journal Article Reference Entries module teaches students how to format reference entries for journal articles.

Visual: When the narrator says, “teaches students,” a text box appears below the journal image that reads, “Journal articles include the research you access from the Library.”

After the narrator says, “journal articles,” the slide changes to one with a stacked journal image in upper right corner. Text box at top of slide reads, “This module might be a good fit if you…”

Audio: This module might be a good fit if you are new to referencing in APA, use journal articles in your writing, or are not sure how to include a DOI number or URL in your reference entry.

Visual: As the narrator reads through, each item appears in its own bullet below slide heading. Bullets read:

  • Are new to referencing in APA,
  • Use journal articles in your writing, or
  • Are not sure how to include a DOI number or URL in your reference entry.

Slide changes to Adobe Connect image. Below Adobe Connect heading is a box with the heading Journal Article Reference Entries. Below this text is a list beginning with Premodule Quiz and ending with Certificate of Completion. Next to each list item is a button. The button next to Premodule Quiz is green and reads, “Open.” The other buttons read, “Locked.”

Audio: This interactive, self-paced module includes a premodule quiz, five tutorials, a postmodule quiz, and a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator lists each item, a black rectangle outline appears around each, starting with Premodule Quiz, then the five tutorials, then the Certificate of Completion at the bottom of the list.

Audio: Once you complete the premodule quiz, the five tutorials will become unlocked.

Visual: A black outline surrounds the Open and Locked buttons next to each module portion as the narrator says, “the four tutorials…”

Audio: These tutorials will provide you with an overview of a journal article reference entry, as well as examples to help you learn the specific formatting needed.

Visual: As narrator says, “overview,” an image appears in the upper left-hand corner of the screen. It reads, “Why learn the APA format for journal articles?” with body text below. As the narrator says, “as well as examples,” a second image appears, slightly overlapping the first and more centered. It reads, “Journal Article Reference Entries,” and has a reference example below main text. These images are previews of the module.

Audio: You will also learn how to find the right information to include in your reference entry, as well as explore common errors and their corrections in journal reference entries.

Visual: As the narrator says, “you will also,” a third image appears that reads, “DOI or URL,” with a text box below. As the narrator says, “right information,” a fourth image appears that reads, “Special Types of Journal Articles.” As narrator says, “as well as explore,” a fifth image appears that reads, “Using a Walden Library URL with a citation example.”

As narrator says, “reference entries,” the images disappear, revealing the original Journal Article Reference Entries box.

Audio: Once you complete the tutorials, take the postmodule quiz until you pass with an 80% score, at which time you can save a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator says, “the tutorials,” the image boxes disappear, revealing the slide below. As the narrator says, “at which time,” an image appears in the upper right that reads, “Congratulations!” and offers a space to enter one’s name that will appear on the completed certificate. As the narrator says, “of completion,” the image fades away.

Audio: Journal articles are one of the most common types of sources students use in their writing. When you’re ready to learn how to reference this common type of source, register for and complete this module!

Visual: Slide changes back to journal stack image from intro slide. Text box at top reads, “Questions?” Text box below image reads, “E-mail wcwebinars@mail.waldenu.edu.”
