Last updated 4/18/2016

Visual: Slide with books in background. Text box reading, “Module Preview: Book Reference Entries,” slides in from left and stops in top center of slide.

Audio: The Book Reference Entries module teaches students how to format reference entries for books…

Visual: Text box appears below books background. Slide reads, “print books, ebooks, chapters of books, and edited books.”

Audio: …including print books, ebooks, chapters of books, and edited books.

Visual: Slide changes. Book image is at top right of slide. Text box left center reads, “This module might be a good fit if you….”

Audio: This module might be a good fit if you are new to referencing in APA, use any type of book in your writing, or are not sure how to cite editors, editions, or ebooks in book reference entries.

Visual: Bullet points appear as the narrator says each item. Bullets read:

  • Are new to referencing in APA,
  • Use any type of book in your writing, or
  • Are not sure how to cite editors, editions, or ebooks in book reference entries.

Slide changes to Adobe Connect image. Below Adobe Connect is a box titled Book Reference Entries. Within the box there is the top item, Book Reference Entries, followed by a list of portions of the module. A button labeled “Open” in green is next to “Premodule Quiz” while the rest of the module components’ buttons read, “Locked.”

Audio: This interactive, self-paced module includes a premodule quiz, five tutorials, a postmodule quiz, and a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator lists each item, a black rectangle outline appears around each, starting with “Premodule Quiz,” then the five tutorials, then the “Certificate of Completion” at the bottom of the list.

Audio: Once you complete the premodule quiz, the five tutorials will become unlocked.

Visual: A black outline surrounds the Open and Locked buttons next to each module portion as the narrator says, “the five tutorials…”

Audio: These tutorials will provide you with an overview of book reference entry format, as well as examples to help you learn the specific formatting needed.

Visual: As the narrator says, “provide you with,” a square image appears in upper left of slide that reads, “Why learn the APA format for books?” and, “Books are an essential part of academia and one of the first resources students will read and use in their writing.”

As the narrator says, “specific formatting,” another image appears on top of first image that reads, “Book Reference Entries,” with a reference example.

These images are previews of pages from the module itself.

Audio: This specific formatting will cover special types of books, like ebooks, chapters in books, and edited books.

Visual: A third image appears as the narrator says, “special types of books,” that reads, “Components of a Reference Entry,” with both ebook and Traditional Book reference examples.

Audio: You will also learn how to find the right information to include in your reference entry, as well as explore common errors and their corrections in book reference entries.

Visual: As the narrator says, “the right information,” a fourth image appears that reads, “Book Example #1,” with an image of a book cover on it alongside a reference entry.

As the narrator says, “reference entry,” a fifth box appears that reads, “Common Errors in Book Reference Entries.” It also lists some examples.

Audio: Once you complete the tutorials, take the postmodule quiz until you pass with an 80% score, at which time you can save a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator says, “the tutorials,” the image boxes disappear, revealing the slide below. As the narrator says, “at which time,” an image appears in upper right that reads, “Congratulations!” and offers a space to enter one’s name that will appear on the completed certificate. As the narrator says, “of completion,” the image fades away.

Audio: Book reference entries are a foundation of reference entries that every student should know how to format. When you’re ready to learn how to reference books, register for and complete this module!

Visual: Slide changes back to book background from intro slide. Text box at top reads, “Questions?” Text box below image reads, “E-mail wcwebinars@mail.waldenu.edu.”
