Last updated 4/18/2016

Visual: Slide with laptop, pen, and ruler in background. Text box with words, “Module Preview: Basic Citation Formatting,” slides in from left and stops in top center of slide.

Audio: The Basic Citation Formatting module introduces students to APA citation formatting, including what to include in citations for paraphrases and quotes and how to format both parenthetical and in-text citations.

Visual: As narrator says, “introduces students,” a text box appears below the center image that reads, “paraphrases & quotes (bullet point) parenthetical & in-text.”

After narrator says, “citations,” slide changes to one with laptop image in upper right corner. Text box at top of slide reads, “This module might be a good fit if you…”

Audio: This module might be a good fit if you are new to referencing in APA, are not sure how to create citations, or need an introduction to citation formatting.

Visual: As the narrator reads through, each item appears in its own bullet below slide heading. Bullets read:

  • Are new to referencing in APA,
  • Are not sure how to create citations, or
  • Need an introduction to citation formatting.

Slide changes to Adobe Connect image. Below Adobe Connect heading is a box with the heading, “Basic Citation Formatting.” Below this text is a list beginning with Premodule Quiz and ending with Certificate of Completion. Next to each list item is a button. The button next to Premodule Quiz is green and reads, “Open.” The other buttons read, “Locked.”

Audio: This interactive, self-paced module includes a premodule quiz, five tutorials, a postmodule quiz, and a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator lists each item, a black rectangle outline appears around each, starting with “Premodule Quiz,” then the five tutorials, then the “Certificate of Completion” at the bottom of the list.

Audio: Once you complete the premodule quiz, the five tutorials will become unlocked.

Visual: A black outline surrounds the Open and Locked buttons next to each module portion as the narrator says, “the five tutorials…”

Audio: These tutorials will provide you with an introduction to the importance and purpose of citations.

Visual: As the narrator says, “importance,” an image box appears in the left-hand upper of slide that reads, “Citation Formatting.” As the narrator says, “purpose,” an image box appears overlapping the first and reads, “Why We Need Citations & How to Create Citations.” These images are previews of the module.

Audio: You will also learn how to and practice citing quotes and paraphrases in both in-text and parenthetical citations.

Visual: As the narrator says, “how to,” an image box appears that reads, “Page Numbers: What does APA say?” With a quotation from the APA manual. As the narrator says, “citing quotes,” an image box appears that reads, “Review the citations below and identify the errors by clicking on them. Then, write a revision in the box that appears.” Below this heading is a block of text.

As narrator says, “citations,” all image boxes disappear, revealing a Basic Citation Formatting box.

Audio: Once you complete the tutorials, take the postmodule quiz until you pass with an 80% score, at which time you can save a certificate of completion.

Visual: As the narrator says, “the tutorials,” the image boxes disappear, revealing the slide below. As the narrator says, “at which time,” an image appears in upper right that reads, “Congratulations!” and offers a space to enter one’s name that will appear on the completed certificate. As the narrator says, “of completion,” the image fades away.

Audio: Citation formatting is something all writers using APA need to know. When you’re ready to learn the basics of citation formatting, register for and complete this module!

Visual: Slide changes back to book background from intro slide. Text box at top reads: Questions? Text box below image reads: E-mail wcwebinars@mail.waldenu.edu.
